WHAT IS GOD’S IMAGE SIMILAR TO MAN?©

Genesis 1:26 (Holy Bible, King James Version) states: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:”.

What is God?  In John 4:24, it states: “God is a Spirit”.  What are we then?  We are also spirits.  We are composed of the physical body and spirit.  God joined the two.  The physical body came from the soil so it will go back to the soil.  The spirit came from God.  That is the breath of life that He breathed into man’s nostrils for man to become a living soul (Genesis 2:7).  When we “die”, this breath of life or the spirit will go back to God.  Ecclesiastes 12:7 states: “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”

Genesis 2:7 states: “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

So which is imperfect?  The physical body.  Which is perfect?  The spirit from God.  When we commit sin, we make the spirit imperfect.  What God wants is that this spirit from Him would be returned as a clean slate as when He gave it.  He wants it perfect.  We therefore should avoid sinning so that we will be worthy to live in His kingdom in Heaven.

God lives forever.  So is our spirit.  God, on Judgment Day, can either send this spirit to live forever in Heaven or in Hell.  So we are the engineer of the house where we will live forever.
