The prophecies are from the Old Testament or the “Tanakh” as the Jews call their Holy Scripture.  The fulfillments are from the New Testament.  All quotations are from the Holy Bible, King James Version.


The fulfillment is just cited as reference.  It is assumed that the reader has some knowledge of the story of Jesus.


The prophecies were made hundreds of years before the coming of Jesus in 1st century BC.  Isaiah and Hosea lived during the 8th century BC;  Micah, 7th century BC; and Zechariah, 6th century BC. 


The book of Psalms was composed by different authors over a long period of time and compiled by the people of Israel.


1.  He will be born from the tribe of Judah.

     Prophecy:  Genesis 49:10 – “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 1:2-16; Luke 3:23-33; Hebrews 7:14


2.  He will come from the family of David, the son of Jesse.


          Psalm 132:11 – “The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.”

          Isaiah 9:7 – “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

          Isaiah 11:1 – “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”

          Isaiah 11:10 – “And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 1:1, 6-16; 9:27; Acts 13:22-23; Romans 1:3; 15:8-12


3.  He will be born in Bethlehem Ephratah.

     Prophecy: Micah 5:2 – “But thou Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

     Fulfillment:  Luke 2:4-11; John 7:42


4.  He will be born by a virgin.

     Prophecy:  Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:30-35


5.  He will enter Jerusalem upon a colt of an ass and hailed as king.


          Psalm 118:26 – “Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD; we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.”

          Zechariah 9:9 – “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 21:1-9; Mark 11:7-11; Luke 19:28-38; John 12:12-15


6.  He will be betrayed by one of his familiar friends, an apostle.


          Psalm 41:9 – “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.”

          Psalm 109:8 – “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 26:47-50; Mark 14:10; 14:43-45; Luke 22:47-48; John 13:18, 26-30; 18:2-3; `Acts 1:16-20


7.  He will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver.

     Prophecy:  Zechariah 11:12 – “And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear.  So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 26:15; 27:3-10; Mark 14:10-11


8:  They will pierce Him for our transgressions.


          Psalm 22:16 – “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.”

          Isaiah 53:5 – “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

          Zechariah 12:10 – “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 27:35, 49; Mark 15:24-25; Luke 23:33; John 19:18, 23, 34, 37; 20:25, 27; Revelation 1:7


9.  He will be given vinegar and gall.

     Prophecy:  Psalm 69:21 – “They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 27:34, 48; Mark 15:23,36


10.  They will cast lots for His garment.

     Prophecy:  Psalm 22:18 – “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”

     Fulfillment:  Matthew 27:35; John 19:23-24
